About Our Site

The Pouncerstone site explores several topics of special interest for informational and enjoyment purposes. Our main categories of topics are as follows:

  • The Wonder Cats - Pouncer, Taffy, Lucky and Spice. And our newest additions: Ronnie and Max. We have pictures, stories and now excerpts from the recently recovered "lost tapes" of an exclusive interview with Miss Taffy. Plus, an insightful interview with girlfriend Spice. Find out who Franklin is and why Lucky received the 1999 Friendship Award from ROOSAA. We also remember our first catfriend, Boone, who passed on in 1997. Why wait any longer? Let's meet them!

  • Feline Kidney Disease - Both Pouncer and Taffy dealt with chronic kidney disease. Pouncer had a kidney biopsy in 1996 that indicated he may be bordering on end-stage renal failure. He became asymptomatic within 1 1/2 years of this biopsy and his treatment plan for kidney disease went from needing subcutaneous fluids and medication daily to only taking one pill every other day. His bloodwork values were within the normal range from 1997 through the end of his life in fall of 2002. We did not lose Pouncer to kidney disease, but to a rare type of lung cancer for which there was no known treatment. We let Miss Taffy go at the age of 21 since her failing vision was impacting her ability to get around the house safely. Her kidney disease was well-managed up through the end of her life on earth. Although both Pouncer and Taffy are gone, this web site has been continued to motivate and inspire pet owners to educate themselves and fight disease on behalf of their cats. We share our experiences, perspectives on managing the disease and provide some helpful information and resources on kidney disease. If you're looking for hope on this subject, you've found the right site!

  • Cat Care Tips - Pouncerstone also offers numerous tips on general cat care topics, including details on Pouncer's adopted approach to dental care, using his favorite dental tool, the Rhino. To Care Tips!

  • Medication And Medical Supplies - There are some cat care and medical supplies that we've come to use on a regular basis. We offer suggestions and links to cost-effective suppliers for such items. We believe it is important to explore alternative suppliers and we typically experience savings as high as 60% off of what veterinary hospitals charge for a number of prescription drugs and related products. Take Me To Medications And Supplies!

  • Suggested Reading - Throughout our site we recommend books for enjoyment and also health care education. This page provides a list of our favorite titles in these areas. We at Pouncerstone are big advocates of arming yourself with education particularly when working to help your pets fight against kidney disease or any other health conditions, but the best time to start learning about cat health issues is before health conditions and/or emergencies develop or progress. Books and other merchandise may be ordered from Amazon.com through links in our Suggested Reading page.

We hope you enjoy our site. If you have questions on the information provided or something you'd like to share, please send us an e-mail. We review mail once each week. Do not submit such questions to the Guestbook if you would like for us to respond to them. Instead, use e-mail.

If you are looking for advice on your cat's health or treatment plan, you need to be consulting with a licensed veterinary medical professional. Pouncerstone does not provide such services or advice. E-mail requests of this nature only waste valuable time that your pet may not have to spare.

If you are looking for someone with whom you or your vet can consult, you may want to consider Cornell University's Feline Consultation Services. We have used their services and were very impressed with them. We have links to their web site on our Education And Resources and our Other Pet Sites pages.

Please feel free to write us if you are interested in contacting the veterinary internist who specializes in nephrology (kidney disease) that set up an excellent treatment plan for Pouncer's kidney disease or our general D.V.M., who presently takes care of the entire Pouncerstone gang. Both of these vets practice in the greater Chicagoland area and we can provide you with contact information upon request. We recommend very few doctors and those we do recommend are the very best.

We can also provide you with contact information on a few Chicago-based specialists in these areas:

  • Opthalmology - If if you are looking for an excellent veterinary opthalmologist in Illinois, you'll find a link to Dr. Denise Lindley's web site, on our Other Pet Sites page.

  • Cardiology - We also have found a very good veterinary cardiologist who travels throughout the state of Illinois to see patients. If you are looking for a cardiologist in this state and would contact information, you may write us.

  • Respiratory Medicine - We met up with an excellent Respiratory Specialist when Pouncer became ill with breathing problems and lung cancer. Please write us if you are looking for such a specialist in the Chicago area or are able to travel to the area as our understanding is that there are very few such specialists in the United States.
