The Cat Who Went to Paris - Peter Gether's true story of Norton's (that handsome Scottish Fold cat) adventures in France. A great book to cozy up with. You'll definitely want to read this one more than once.
Chicken Soup for the Cat and Dog Lover's Soul - True and very heart-warming stories about the wonderous things cats and dogs do that make them so dear to us.
All I Need to Know I Learned from My Cat - Suzy Becker has put together a very entertaining cartoon-style book which that does a great job of capturing the characteristics we love in our cats, with plenty of humor that will make you smile.
America's Favorite Backyard Wildlife - This book by Kit and George Harrison teaches us a lot about our backyard friends that we enjoy watching so much. Many picture and facts on squirrels, rabbits, raccoons and plenty of other common backyard visitors. Includes things about their habitat, how they nest, what they like to eat, their life spans and more. Some amazing facts are included, such as the fact that newborm opossums are smaller than the size of a penny! And the authors share some amusing incidents with us, too. My favorite is a report of a raccoon who, when he hears Beethoven's Ninth Symphony being played, comes out of the woods, opens the screen door of the house from which the music is playing and promptly sits down besides one of the speakers, listening intently!
The Merck Manual Of Medical Information: Home Edition - This is an excellent reference book for the layperson and it is very helpful in explaining kidney disease (and of course many other diseases, conditions and symptoms). A book like this does a lot to help the average reader feel more comfortable in understanding and discussing health care topics and treatment.
Eating Well Living Well With Kidney Disease - Dietary Approaches To Healthy
Living - This little book is very helpful for us laypersons who wants
to develop a solid understanding of what the kidneys do and how diet,
mineral intake, etc. need to be managed (and the "whys" behind
their need for proper management). The book is written with human kidney
patients in mind (so if your cat is the kidney patient in the household,
you might want to skip the chapter on meal planning!) There's a lot that
can be learned by those of us who have a cat or a family member with kidney
problems from this handbook.
BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Nephrology and Urology - Although this book is written for veterinary medical professionals, there's a vast amount of information here that can be learned by us laypersons on the topics of kidney disease and kidney failure. Arm yourself with a good medical dictionary and some time and you'll be surprised how much you can learn. (That's exactly how this human learned!) You'll find that you're more versed at understanding the disease and treatment options, which helps us be better equipped in understanding terms and concepts presented by vets and others.
First Aid For Cats: What To Do When Emergencies Happen - This little book is an excellent and easy-to-understand resource that we recommend highly for any cat owner. Very helpful in not only emergency situations, but on a wide range of topics from how to give medications to how to reduce the risk of emergencies through proper care. This human's opened this book many times: a very useful reference book, even for non-emergency situations.
