Links To Other Pet Sites
Here is our list of links to other pet sites. We are selective regarding the links and the number of them
that we present since we feel that very lengthy pages of links lack usefulness. We want
our list to have a significant focus on education-oriented sites and other sites that present resources of
value to our visitors. Plus, a limited number of fun ones.
- About.com - Cat Health Issues - About.com offers many helpful resources
and links pertaining to cat health issues and cats in general.
- American College of Veterinary Opthalmologists (ACVO) -
This site provides listings by state and province for Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Opthalmalogists.
If you are looking for an eye specialist for your cat, this is one resource you could use to help locate an
opthalmalogist in addition to getting a referral from your regular vet. Not all veterinary opthalmalogists are
Diplomates, so you may find some in the yellow pages or through your vet that are not listed with the A.C.V.O.
Try this link to get a better understanding of a
Diplomate's credentials.
- Animal Eye Consultants - Our little Lucky Larou developed some serious eye
problems early in 2001. From appearances, it looked as if she had dry eyes with a lot of mucus on the corneas constantly.
We had taken her to see a veterinary opthalmologist in the Chicago area who misdiagnosed her. Lucky was not improving.
Fortunately, we were then referred to Dr. Denise Lindley of Animal Eye Consultants. Dr. Lindley quickly diagnosed Lucky's
condition properly. Lucky's eye problems were due to the Feline Herpesvirus and she did not have dry eyes. It is extremely
rare for a cat to actually have dry eyes as the primary cause behind eye problems. Lucky was quickly
put on an appropriate treatment plan and has made significant progress. Animal Eye Consultants has offices in Crestwood,
Elgin and Naperville, IL. If you need an eye specialist, we highly recommend the best,
Dr. Lindley. Our Taffy was one of her patients, too.
And tell Dr. Lindley that Lucky, her table-rolling patient, referred you.
- Best Friends Animal Sanctuary - Best Friends has a 3,000 acre sanctuary
for animals who have no homes. It's a no-kill sanctuary, which takes in animals coming from all types of situations.
If you're planning a vacation out west, you might want to stop by and visit Best Friends. They are looking for
volunteers all over the country to be a part of their network. Regardless of where you live or your skill-set,
you may want to check out this site. You may be able to help out in your own neighborhood!
- C.A.R.E. Pet Loss Helpline - If you are in need of emotional support
to deal with a possible future loss of a pet or a loss that has already occurred, the University of Illinois
College of Veterinary Medicine provides the C.A.R.E. Pet Loss Helpline. It is staffed by students who have been
trained by professional grief counselors. This site also provides links to other pet loss sites.
- Cat Basics 101 - Here you'll find a
lot of tips and links on a variety of cat care topics. Helpful information even for those well-seasoned cat
lovers!
- Cornell Feline Health
Center - Cornell University's Feline Health offers telephone consultative services with their
veterinarians on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during certain hours. We have used this service
and found them to be excellent and very concerned about the health of our pets. If you are interested
in using this service, we suggest you gather up and organize your test results, etc. and compile a
list of questions for the doctor before calling. Your vet can also arrange a vet-to-vet consultation
with them, which is addressed on their
Questions & Comments page. Please be aware this is a fee-based service.
- Cornell University's Pet Loss Support Hotline - Cornell University
offers grief support services provided by veterinary medical students. Their web site also provides a place
where pictures and tributes to pets who have passed on are displayed, for those who would like to share
their memories with others. Cornell's site also has links to other pet loss web sites and resources.
- Dog AID - This U.K. nationwide charitable organization
specializes in helping people with physical disabilities train their own pet dogs. Please visit their
site for further information!
- Eye Clinic For Animals - Both Taffy and Lucky deal
with eye problems (Taffy has one eye and very limited vision in the other and Lucky has Feline Herpesvirus of
the eye) and so we appreciate the information that the Eye Clinic For Animals has shared through their web site.
If you want to beef up on your education about eye conditions, you'll find this site helpful. If your cat or dog
has eye problems, you most likely need the help of a good veterinary opthalmologist.
- Great Pyrenees Rescue - This is the site of the Great Pyrenees Club
of Greater Chicago, which does rescue work for this breed of dogs. This site is highly recommend by George
Ashley, a truly Great Pyrenees who now has a home with a loving family.
- Missing Pets Network - This site presents listings of lost and
found animals and infomation on how to conduct a good search should your pet ever become lost. Since that's
a very emotionally upsetting experience, it may be helpful to print out their tips and tuck them away, just
in case.
- National Animal Poison Control Center - Site includes
preventive information on indoor and outdoor poison hazards for dogs and cats, as well as emergency services
provided.
- National Cat Protection Society - This California-based,
non-profit organization, works to provide "retirement homes" for cats whose owners are no longer
able to care for them. Visit their site to learn more about how you can help and perhaps even adopt
a cat who needs a loving home.
- Drs. Foster & Smith's PetEducation.com - A very helpful
resource which allows you to seach for information on prescription drugs, diagnostics tests and medical
procedures, etc. and offers cat care information on numerous topics.
- PetPlace.com - This is a wonderfully informative site with
abundant information on health conditions, a great drug library, etc. If you only bookmark two pet
care web sites, PetPlace.com should be one of them, along with pouncerstone.com!
- petswelcome.com - petswelcome works to identify hotels and other
places where your pets will receive a friendly welcome when you're on vacation. Also provides a very useful
search box to identify emergency vet facilities throughout the country.
